Hey,

Pretty much as title states, I need a 12x1.25 tap to tidy up a thread, only place I can seem to find them are engineering shops and they cost around $40!

I can't justify spending that for two threads.

If anyone has one I can borrow that'd be awesome.

Thanks,

- Andy

They don't have 12x1.25. Only 12x1.5 and 12x1.75

Buy a stainless bolt and use that to clean it,

Lots of wd40 or crc wind in a bit and back out clean it and repeat

Is it likely to cross thread the hole?

Not unless you put it in on an angle, a tap can do the same damage

The subframe holes. I tried cleaning it out with crc and trying the bolt but I think it's starting to ruin the bolt thread.

Ah yes, I had to clean mine out too. You definitely want a tap to do that. Just buy one, as it's a common size on Japanese cars.

The amount of shit I've bought lately for single use is ridiculous. Next to my shop is a hirage place, borrowing his set for free.

It might seem a bit obvious, but you do know the way to use taps correctly, don't you?

Slowly and turning it in and out. Bonus with the one I've got is it's four large splines help collect the crap rather than turning it into the thread

$76+gst will get you a tap and die set from Sulco. M3 to M12, yes it includes both 1.25mm and 1.5mm pitch taps for the M12 in the kit.

Use tapping & drilling spray lubricant; I was told one turn anticlockwise per three clockwise turn to clear the swarf from the threads - but that wasn't from an engineer, just a work colleague

More like back half a turn for every turn forwards. And yes, plenty of cutting oil.

And I'll quote that!

Pull your handbrake just enough so the light comes on. That sends the ECU into full race mode.
