I had an issue tuning the ESL - I left off the fender liners when I put the preface front end on my 92. When we went to road tune, rain water was going through the plastic snorkel box in the fender, into the airbox, soaking the filter and MAF. The next rain-free weekend I went down again to the tuner/friend's house and we were able to do a proper tune. My setup is pretty simple, fully rebuilt stock long block ej22t, GD STI yellowtop injectors, a vf23 with a 90* aluminum elbow welded on, and an 06 WRX tmic (similar to the SG fozzie tmic), an older Innovate wideband, and a Ver 6 STI-RA 5mt with a lame 4.44 r160 vlsd diff. Everything else is original to the car.

Right now the heads are the limiting factor, but the turbo holds 1.15 bar (about 17 psi) nearly to redline. Gabe the tuner said he could change the spool so it has more boost lower down in the rev range, tapering to 15psi at the top end, but it was getting late. Fueling and timing could be tweeked a little to get 20 or so more bhp too. All in all I'm very happy with the result. The car spools much faster, and it is on a safe tune. Just found an ej22t shortblock at the junkyard, and plan to build it with some pistons and the ej20k sti heads I already have for next year. I'm sure I'll want bigger injectors, turbo and to go maf-less at that point

Very nice, good stuff. Wish we had turbo 2.2's kicking about in junk yards... the one and only caveat to living in a JDM paradise I suppose! Makes me glad you guys actually get something cool the rest don't for a change.

For what 99% of us are doing with the legacy's, using an NA ej22 block as the base would be perfectly fine. Despite only 10% more displacement, the '22 makes a "yuuuge" difference in spool.

I have an esl board in my 1990 Legacy GT running mafless with a TD05, yellow injectors and a map sensor from a GTB. It made an 312 BHP at the flywheel and the heads are limiting it now.

I also worked with them to get the newer esl board to run on my 96 GTB and runs vf 26 and 27 turbos (motorsport pack isnt available on the twin turbos!)

I have dealer status with them and supply them to Legacy owners on UKlegacy.com

The 99-00 still isnt finished and comes as a reflash rather than a daughter board

What heads are you running Hallie? I have a feeling we'll never see the motorsport package for the ej20g board. Hopefully you have better luck communicating with them, they haven't replied to a single email since I bought the board. Even so, the product works and is easily worth the money IMO.

I have the standard ej20g heads at the moment. But will be building a EJ22t setup soon for this car but will probably switch to Syvecs management for that as it will be running AVCS heads and a DCCD box.

I can talk directly to ESL as one of the two brothers lives fairly close to me and I have a s2 saloon of theirs in my workshop that I have fitted a EG33 to

What did you need to know from them I may be able to help?

If you get a chance Hallie, before I bought the ESL, Andy assured me he would provide a copy of the tuning software with the ability to switch between coil on plug and wasted spark for my ej22t. I need that software! Secondly, I'd like to know if they can allow me to change the dwell settings for coil on plug. Thanks in advance!

I assume that you already have a version of the tuning software? what version?
