There is a simple reason for this - they see the forum is active. Active forums have people looking and clicking. People looking and clicking might just click on a malware link supplied by a spam bot.
They have reached a crisis, but I am confident it will be solved when the new software is installed. There will be salvation.
As for us: DOBC regularly gets hit, but guess what. Our software is awesome. Most of these are picked up, and only myself and the two admins see anything of them. They can never post.
However, if a spam bot does make it through our systems and does manage to start posting... DO NOT REPLY. Do not reply with a smarmy comment, do not reply calling them out as spam. Do not reply with a legitimate answer, do not reply asking mods to take action. Do not reply AT ALL. This is extremely important; as soon as they get notification that people are posting on the forum, they will return in force.
On that note, if I do see someone responding to a spam thread in full knowledge that it is a spam thread, I will be issuing a warning. Repeated behaviour will result in a stand-down period, ie: you will have a temporary ban.
I know no one has done this yet, and for that I thank you - you are awesome, my lovelies. But seeing how swamped the CS mod team is currently, I don't want that for DOBC...got far better things to do, like make awesome stickers and T-shirts for you all. So let's keep it as it is...respond to humans only! I'll come down like a big fat chick on anyone silly enough to let spammers know we're here and waiting for their viruses.
This is called a pre-emptive strike.
