Could either get a spray up here or down there...

Getting it there will be the trick. Probably prohibitively expensive re: crossing that damn straight  Welly is achievable if there are no shells in the area. Chch, yeah I forgot to factor in that farkin' straight...

Worst comes to worst it's, club barfs up for a dereg'd 'local' vehicle and sends a few cans of paint down :lolz:

tonnes of them down here. And would prob be considerable cheaper than sending one on a boat.
Thats around $200 to do last I heard.
Hence, Picton lads building a van to do it!

Few cans of paint in the mail, or vouchers for which, then :lolz:

We can battle out between ourselves facelift vs prefacelift, then present a united front to CS B)

Very specific motors. At this stage we are looking at bolting down 1st generation EJ20E - alternatively EJ20D. Trans undecided.

And not required to be road registered no, not unless a volunteer(s) wants to take on the yearly rego costs. Auckland's car will likely be deregistered and be a lawn hermit to be trailered around. The state of the cars bought elsewhere will be up to the area - whether there is a cheap local deal that can be sprayed up and maintained, or whether the area has a Strong car delivered.

But basically they are going to be low powered, unmodified (save, say, a few spud cannons or straightpipes :D) so the maintenance is cheap and the competition is intense.

This is not to say, of course, that there's no future for such cars ;) ;) :D

I myself am planning stickering/painting up a Targa-spec fire-breather. It won't be a club car that's for sure :P Those are more the 'what can we achieve with $500' spec. :lolz:

Sounds like a good plan for Wellington's club car

The early import EJ20D's had a higher rev limit from memory, up around 8000.

when i was driving the poverty-spec impreza 1.6 it still went quite well, especially higher up in the revs

i know the '94 quadcam 2.0L go nicely too, we had a BG TS way-back-when..

what config is the EJ20D engine? what sort of cost involved in putting one together? because to be fair you would want the same engine/ecu combo in each car. hence the easy sohc engine idea

i wouldn't worry about it being slow. once you remove a 100kg from the car and play with the intake/exhaust it will be sweet.

EJ20D and EJ20E are both the same sort of cost = approx $500 per unit at my prices. The 20D has an extra 1000rpm up its sleeve as it's DOHC and slightly more well thought out it seems. The 20D is found in the VZ AFAIK. Pretty common. Willing to bet more common than the SOHC.

Theoretically we could stipulate "Vehicle must be VZ or VZ-R, with original spec motor". Cheaper than getting a shell then getting a motor. This could apply to whatever model(s) chosen.

The issue will fall more to actually what YEAR of EJ20E or EJ20D, rather than which one in the first place; we could easily stipulate EJ20E (SOHC only), but it wouldn't be hard to sneak my Impreza's motor in or accidentally get a newer 20E. It'd make more than an old DOHC, and it's as much a 20E as the old ones. (Yet laughably enough, mine still only revs to 6200rpm :lolz:)

Both motors are fairly bombproof (ie: drain all the fluids out of it and drive around for a while to run the bearings or pop a cyl wall) and the same price from a good source, all the 2.0L Legacys go for about the same sort of price bracket once you disregard the turbos.

To nail it down I can call Gerald and ask him which one he has the most stock of, and/or which ones have a better running:fucked ratio. I'm not picky about either tbh as they are both common, bomb-proof, and in theory any cars we get through Strong will be complete, pretty straight, and running. Once we've nailed down a model we can make it the gold standard around the country. If it's a VZ, make 'em VZs. :D

That's running, from a wrecker. Won't find cheaper than that unless you go to pickapart and/or maori it from your neighbour's car :D (Or, alternatively, buy a wreck on TM)

See if they'll drop the price for a start-up warranty, rather than a 30 or 90 day warranty.
I got my replacement EJ22 back in '02 or '03 for $600 like that.

Any further progress on this matter regarding what motor\model that will be used thought I might keep my eyes and ears open :)

Nah not much discussion lately lol.

Was thinking about interior and what we're gonna do there?
Rip out everything including carpet and just leave the front seats/dash (was thinking chuck a couple of old wrx seats in until the club can afford race seats/harnesses)

Up to each area I guess. Auckland's one will probably have no interior except for two front seats. When I start my web job next year I should have enough dosh around to replace my interior... I'd probably donate my old Recaros to the cause. :D
