World tech competition in Japan - on car and therory tests
managed to top score the therory test , but lost points on the on car test(even tho I finished first) due to not taking rubbish out of the glove box
and also my diagnostic approach wasnt the Subaru way ...
NZ and Aus had 2.5 na sohc ..USA had na dohc .. England had dohc turbo, so i knew ignition couldnt be "faulted" as the systems are different
I had spent a month setting up for this comp, traced looms etc working out what they could do to set the test car up
So i knew for instance if the rear wiper didnt go and the interior light worked then the fuse was ok as they share the same one.
Subaru methods are - start at the battery and work thru the system
Japan Won the comp - and i dont think you'll ever beat there clinical approach to working on cars
All in all a totally AWESOME experience to have had, even went thru the Subaru factory at Gunma - WOW
and yes V5's rock

Its because you do it the kiwi way
and this is why we as technicians/fitters/engineers are sort after overseas, because we get the job done and we do it quickly and quietly and PERFECTLY
You may be No 2 in the world but you are and always have been No 1 to most of us
