So I read this, http://msn.nzherald....0772752&ref=rss

and was hoping they were going to apply this law to everyone, not just the youth they love to target so much. I mean just by calling any youth with a performance car "boy-racers" created this massive negative image of us. The crazy looks and comments I get from people is almost up there with anything racist or sexist, I shave my head, have tats, wear singlets and drive a scooby, I'm just s white guy not a serial rapist, seriously!

There is just this ignorance towards the youth, yet if they don't trust us their fucked because lets face it we are running the country on the next few years and well ... paybacks a bitch right :P

So this "boy-racer" law that allows them to crush car I hope is applied to the old bastards who I see going about 100km past my shop (in a 50km zone) in their Holdens and Fords, and the ones who also do burnouts with take off out of the car park and then continue to speed up the road.

Seriously grinds my gears when I called a "bloody boy-racer", especially when they've only just seen me step out of my car, not actually driving it.

I'm all for the law for those who continually are retarded and do dumb shit,go nuts crush their cars as well as disqualify them, just as long as they stop blaming and harassing all of us with performance cars because as in that article he drove a 1982 Corolla

Well said!! I have heard anecdotely through a few cop friends that the first person prosecuted for sustained loss of traction was a 42 year old business man in a NA 300ZX, not a 16 year old in a Skyline like they wanted for the papers.

The traffic laws in this nation have become about oppressing the youth instead of ensuring their safety.

When are they going to open their eyes, and realise punitive measures aren't working? Take the giant fuck load of revenue from fines and spend on better and compulsary driver training and education.

Its an unfortunate tag... Sadly So many muppets work hard to earn it and now seem to be very proud of the tag.

I am very disturbed to see with each year that goes on I have more and more staff in faster cars who seem to be aiming to be known as a boyracer.

Luckily at 24 and only driving my car on weekends I don't get the negative attention i used to. I do remember the negative stigma well however.

I read an interesting comment today asking why the hell we arent crushing cars of drink drivers. Struck me pretty hard when I remembered reading in the court pages last week about a guy who was up on his 6th DUI. Only got fines and loss of license. Surely his car should go in the crusher?

Yeah I'm 24 as well and my daily is my WRX, I was going to write unfortunitly my daily is my WRX but then why is that unfortunite? I'm bloody proud of my car, as well as my criminal history which is ZERO! Without a clean history I wouldn't have my liquor licence.

It's insane how i get lip from guys in their 40's about how I'm the cause for the high taxes and the high crash rate in this country then have then zoom off in their penismobiles, or even worse disobey the simplist of road rules, such as indicating when changing lanes which they just assume I just know they are comming into my lane so should move out their way.

Worse road offenders in my opinion are they oldies 60+ who have been driving so long they believe they are still the quick confident drivers they were 30 years ago. I've had so many near misses with old people pulling out of intersections and driveways without giving way at all. To maintain your drivers lisence at an old age all you need to do is take an eye test, reading off that same eye chart they have memorised from the last 50 years.

Professional driving classes should be compulsary for atleast 10-15hrs as well as defensive driving classes, sure it cost a bit more for parents but really why wouldn't you want that knowledge that your kid is experienced. Oldies should have to sit a driving test too in all fairness, go through the whole answering road rule questions and take a practical test.

Given we have one of the easiest driver licence tests in the world, and extremely low fines and punishments, no wonder we have the issues we do.

Couldn't have said it better Ryan - it's too easy for retards to get their license, and might I point out it's essentially a license to kill. MEAN AZ DORIFUTO it into some old lady in a Sirion, and there you have the death your license enables you to inflict.

On the one hand, so many of these fuck-knuckles earn their names. It's unfortunate that those of us that are sane and responsible get some of that backwash - but frankly, that's half of why I started bloody DOBC and that's why we uphold our rules and image so strongly. For every boyfaggot out there doing SKIDZ AU, there needs to be three of us saving it for the track and thinking of our fellow citizens.

I do think though, that for the other hand...24 is not 'youth' any more. Those of us in our mid-20s know better, act better, have careers and respect...I don't think we're seen as the underwear-showing, flat-peak-wearing bepolo'd ricers that 15-18 year olds are.

So true about any Tom Dick and Harry getting their license, day after day I sit at work and watch people pass a test with the help of asupport person! And the person doing the bloody test can't read or speak a lickof English. Or people come in pay the $93.90 fail the first time and then pay$45.70 to re sit, I'm dead serious here I’ve seen people do the test 10+ times, they don’t understand the rules they have just memorised the test and passed, and these people have been given a license to drive, seriously some people thatcome through the AA should not be driving.

The boy racer image is such a pain in the butt! My daily is also a WRX, stockas hell but still I get people looking at me like I’m the devil, I even have a"baby on board" sticker on my window. One thing that really gets mygoat is when I have an old man in his $60,000 Holden up my butt trying to provea point, then he speeds past me on the motorway doing 120km+.

Ahh I could go on forever. Don’t agree with some laws. But on the other handthere are losers out there that created this name for us, this reputation andnow anyone that owns a performance car has been generalised as a boy racer. Atleast there are some trying to make a difference.

Just because the media has chosen to label them boy racer laws, doesn't mean they apply only to youth, far from it. The sad fact of the matter is youth doing stupid things far out number old farts doing stupid things. But if ANYONE gets caught doing burnouts, and doughnuts, regardless of age, I'm sure they'll get tried under these laws. If you think a cop is going to look at an old bloke doing burnouts in a different light, and let them off, you are sorely mistaken.

I fully agree on the license front though, it's FAR too fucking easy to get a license here, it's insulting to all that is safe and logical. I really get appauled when local govt's drop speed limits on roads 'For safety' (how often do people crash due to ecxessive speed at 100kph?), yet gladly pawn off drivers licenses to the most retarded of fools, pat them on the back, and tell them to enjoy their new freedom.

nicely said........and it's a bad rap u guys are having to carry cause of a few fucktards

Personally......... me and my ride don't get targetted cause it's fairly stealth and 'familyish'...........most people don't take me or the car seriously anyway they prolly think I'm having a mid life crisis :D ...........that suits me fine

as for the cops.......they don't look twice

Same with the BG actually, I've been pulled over a grand total of 3 times in the last 4 years, and not once did I get a ticket, or even a formal warning (in fact one time I got on really well with the girl that pulled me over, turns out her brother is a pilot too). Yet I'm 24, and my exhaust is obnoxiously loud as any other.

We are in full control over the image we broadcast to the world, this involves the way we drive, how tidy we keep our cars, the way we dress, the way we speak, and what we say, etc.. The ball is in our court when it comes to public perception of us, not in anyone elses.

I got pulled up once when i first got my bg then never again. Same with my bf5 wagon even with a way over the limit exhaust didnt get looked at once Stis do fit the boy racer car more than.a wagon tho. its rather sad but we have to live with it and got nothing to worry about if your not an actual boy racer

Speaking of WRXs, I've only been pulled over a few times in the Impreza...NEVER in the Legacy. When in public, I drive the Impreza sedately. Apart from the weathered wheels and paint, the car is bloody tidy...the big bore doesn't make that much of a difference. But in nearly 6 years, I've had a grand total of 'You're going 64 in a 50', 'Is this car stolen?' and 'What the hell are you doing awake at this hour?'. Reuben is very correct, the image you project has a lot of control over how you are percieved.

Actively promoting an 'I am a responsible adult' image amongst us can only benefit us.

Drunken is also very correct. It's the same across the board, beyond cars...if you're not the one fucking up, you're not gonna get in trouble. Same with CCTV cameras, speed/red light cameras, walking down the street, whatevs.

Though still the stereotype stays.

Education is where it's at. My game at the moment, and has been for years: let lots of people in at intersections, in heavy traffic, you name it. You should see the looks on peoples' faces when a 'boyracer car' lets them in!

They need to be as hard to get a car licence as it is for a motorcyclist one. To get your L's for a car you need to pass a "theory test" whereas for a bike you need to do both a practical "can you fucking ride at all?" test AND the theory on top. There is no way to show that people on their L's can drive at all. I'm all for the compulsory driver training. Fuck they should make you have x hours of basic driver training off the road before you even sit your learners these days. Less fucktards on the road that can't even operate a motorvehicle the better.

Speaking of which, some old bird in her 50's or 60s was tailgating me along the motorway on my way back to Auckland today. Changed lanes about 5 times and didnt indicate ONCE!

Fully in agreement with the image you project affecting the way you are viewed.
While driving a lowered V7 STI, and working night shift, I was pulled up 3 times in 2 weeks around 10:30pm.
The first time, I was wearing a scummy hoodie and it was cold with the window down (filthy smoker present  ) so the hood was up. The first words out of the officer's mouth were "Is this car yours?" He thought he had won Lotto when I replied that it wasn't mine! It was registered under wife's name due to her name being on top of purchase agreement at dealer. :lolz:
The 2nd time, I was all kitted out in my scummy hi-vis gears, super obvious I had just finished work. Officer asked where I worked etc and just asked for my license.
3rd time, the car was outta rego but by treating the officer with respect and standard issue human decency, I was let off so long as was rectified ASAP. I knew I was in the wrong, admitted it, explained it was hard to get to post office while working nights and she agreed BECAUSE I WASN'T A COCK!!!

So if you worry about boy racer laws, I guess the best advice is just don't break any. I have never had a speeding ticket nor a crash and never will due to knowing my road rules and more importantly, following them.

Agreed mark :)

The young these days need some RESPECT & its not helped by the soft law changes we've had. It too late for many & its probably fucked the next two generations to come.
what happened to commonsence, its like it was replaced with arrogance.

dont care if they crush the cars, maybe they shouldn't have been a fuckwit about it...
or maybe it's the parents or the schools fault then again could always blame the drink too, always someone elses fault :P
