Bit of a long shot this one but my brother-in-law has got an BG GT auto and he needs to do his timing belt and cam seals but is finding it really hard to get parts anywhere other than main dealer!

We have ICP that we use for pattern parts over here but he can't find anything apart from main-stealer at he moment! I would of thought parts would be dirt cheap over there, being closer to Japan and the fact they definitely seem to be more popular!

For the prices his got from the main-stealers it's cheaper for us to buy them here and import them over, even with the double hit on tax etc.

Also if anyone knows of a decent garage that's happy working on subarus in the Auckland/Papakura area I'm sure my brother (a qualified mechanic) will appreciate it, at the moment it looks like he's got to fix it when he goes over at Christmas!

Only use genuine parts. End. Of. Story.

So Winger or Armstrong or any genuine parts supplier it is. As for used parts, there's only one place we go, Strong for Subaru!

And places to work on cars? I hear good things about Highbrook Auto.

Gotta agree with Reubs there. Genuine parts go the distance. Almost all of us have had issues with non genuine parts in some way or another. Oil seals and o-rings that aren't genuine are the first parts that don't stack up to genuine that come to mind. But you run into issues with a bunch of stuff.
Cam belts in particular you will have a pain in the ass if you don't use genuine - especially if you have to take it off before its dead to fix oil leaks from leaking oil seals as a few of them aren't marked in the right places so getting your timing right can be hard

You can get genuine cambelt kits from $345 +gst. Pretty cheap IMO.

Yerp. Timing belt of all things isn't worth the risk of sloppy seconds IMO, particularly when the genuine stuff is the same price if not cheaper. DOBC can get a 10% discount off parts through Winger, but we certainly can't beat the special still going at the moment. :D

And yeah. Highbrook Automotive - not cheap, but 99.9% awesome.

ur spoilt for choice here............and they are reasonably priced. You can even find what ur looking for on our local auction site called Trademe

here's a few examples

http://www.trademe.c...n-429825869.htm

http://www.trademe.c...n-430630762.htm

every now and then you'll even come across a deal like this.........

http://www.trademe.c...n-430079934.htm

Like boostin said................the subaru dealers here even have the complete kits for cheaper than the prices above

As above as has been mentioned GENUINE seem to go the distance BUT saying that I have just rebuilt the heads of my brothers car and decided that i will try FULL aftermarket gaskets, seals and belts to see if they have improved over the last wee while.
It may also have something to do with the HUGE discount i get from BNT :)
Owns REAL old school Subarus :)

Ah that's wicked cheers for the advice guys, I'll pass it all on :)

S'pose we must get lucky over here, never had a problem with pattern parts even found pattern rocker-cover gaskets that fit better than the scooby ones!

That's a bargain! The genuine tensioner is £136($275) on it's own here. Haha don't what he's moaning about now!
