Gonna leave this open for a while.

As you all hopefully know by now, 1) ClubSUB is having their Megameet in Christchurch next April, and 2) DOBC is having a driver training track day earlier in the year in the North Island. Pukekohe and Hampton Downs are out of the question due to cost, which leaves us with Manfeild and Taupo.

Cast your vote as to which track you would prefer. Ultimately this may not be the final decision maker, but it will give the DOBC boffins a good idea of who wants to go where.

In a while I will also start talking preferred dates.

As a footnote, this will be an open event with anyone welcome; the target racers are i) newbies, inexperienced track-hands, and ii) both DOBC and CS members that won't be able to get their cars down to Megameet at Ruapuna. As for the latter event, at some stage we'll have to start talking flights for those of us that are going down to spectate :D

But yes. Here is the place to talk about which track you would prefer. (And we won't be able to do full track at Taupo, just can't get a proper img of the inner track XD)

Taupo is definitely a cooler track. It's a lot nicer surface, smoother, being a lot newer than Manfeild. It was my first track experience.

Having done a few events/playdays at both tracks. I'd say Taupo is a better beginners track. Manfeild requires bigger balls :D

dont bother me either way as distance is roughly the same to each track for me, the last time I was at manfeild was with the hb karting club many many many moons ago,and have only been on the whole track at taupo, so doing the half track is appealing to, so both appeal to me and will go with the flow of what the others vote with.

$4k mark is about the same as Pukekohe...makes me lol. I dunno what they think makes that silly little egg-shaped thing sit in the same league as the whole Taupo track. XD

Dunno that DOBC will be able to afford the whole track, we've got no funds to fall back on :lolz: I'll investigate what the inner track costs. (Still awesome, of course)

Sorry Nick, but this Auckland thing of yours is starting to piss me off. Just because going on a track isn't a big priority for some, if not most, the preference for a near by track is a given. I'm not gonna drive 3+ hours to find it's either not for me, or the car isn't up to track work and ends up needing to be towed home. Taupo would be my absolute limit at the mo, and even then I'm a 50/50. Manfeild is just too far, and Ruapuna is out of the question. Just because you're more than willing to drive up to Taupo, doesn't mean we should drive down to Ruapuna. Each to their own.

Manfield 1st pref............if voting and costs swing it Taupo way then not a prob......................I've raced on both

As for track prep............i think there was a thread on dobc somewhere...............if there isn't we should open one

I learnt so much from others on how to prep the car for track

It saves time and heartache...............especially if ur travelling a long way to get to the track

Manfield FTW, love it as a track, I prefer it massively over Taupo.

I dont really know why, just personal preference and enjoy what I know I guess. I have never found it anymore intimidating than Taupo. Yeah it has some short runoffs but tbh for newbies that's usually not a concern.

I know I have only had 2-3 offs in my few sessions out and each one was long after what I would consider my newb time.

Plus a short runoff adds to the thrill B)

- Edit -

Have they fixed the patches of epoxy type shit they were using to patch Taupo there for a bit? Took a mates 600cc bike around there and man those spots were a pain!

I have to say I enjoyed Manfeild as my first track too.

Also yeah, I think a track prep thread would be appropriate. There's good stuff every year from CS, but can't hurt to get as much info on here for those that have never been out there :)

Updates.

Recieved word back from Taupo; track 2 is $3,220.00 incl GST for the day, track 3 is half that.

We're looking at a minimum of 30 people for $120 for Taupo, minimum 20 for the same at Manfeild.

Just need to confirm prices with Manfeild now.

how are those Manfield prices? Personally, I'd only be interested in Taupo if it were the full track......

The above price isn't for the full track at Taupo, it's only for international - we won't be able to afford full track :( Will investigate Manfeild further. Realistically it's the right track for us, but if we can flood our numbers with CSers then Taupo may also be possible.

Yeah, we'll be hiring in the height of the season whichever we go.

Earlier would be more fun for those of us HNNNNGHing, though post-holidays is ideal for drumming up numbers as the students have had time to earn over that period. It's also awfully close to exam time on that side of the year. So if it was entirely unsupported by the many students wanting to race, it'd be a goer earlier I'm sure :brows:
